Sustainable weight loss requires more than caloric restriction and toughing it out. For many it requires a deeper look inside, to understand their relationship with food and their long-term goals. Unlike generic weight loss solutions, often highly focused on short term caloric restriction, our programmes use health coaching as their foundation to create the conditions for long-term health. To recognise and support the unique journey each person undertakes and to enable the client to make sustainable and lasting change.
As ever, please talk to your doctor or medical practitioner most familiar with your medical history before implementing any changes in diet, exercise or lifestyle, especially if you are under treatment. Links to any supporting studies or resources are at the end of page.
Vision and Values
One of the fundamental aspects of health coaching is empowering clients to define their vision and values. By helping our clients to articulate their aspirations and aligning them with their core beliefs, our clients can create a powerful foundation for their weight loss journey. This personalised approach ensures that their goals resonate, making them more meaningful and achievable. This is a key part of the process and one that we often revisit with our clients as they develop skills to manage their health.
What works for one person in their health, their weight loss journey, may not work for another. We recognise that a one-size-fits-all approach rarely yields lasting results. After an initial health assessment, clients receive tailored guidance that considers their existing state of health, unique preferences, lifestyles and challenges.
During the initial stages of our work together we explore how the client’s own tastes and preferences align with healthy nutrition, daily eating choices and health. Only then do we work together to craft a customised plan that supports healthy eating habits and weight loss.
The process may also involve a focus on the client’s other lifestyle practices and the pillars of health. For example, sleeping habits, work-life balance, stress or identifying an exercise routine correctly tailored to their goals. We will work together to develop targeted strategies that adapt as the client progresses and set the client up for success in the long-term.
Many weight loss regimens leave the client at risk of yo-yo weight gain. Health coaching develops long-term skills and habits to promote health and balance.
Accountability forms a cornerstone of the health coaching process. Health coaches serve as dedicated allies, offering support while holding clients accountable for their actions. Regular check-ins, progress evaluations and open communication ensure that clients stay on track, providing the motivation needed to overcome hurdles and celebrate victories, both big and small.
Weight loss isn't just about physical transformation, it can also be a mental and emotional journey. Success in weight loss isn’t linear: some weeks more, other weeks less, at times standing still, even going up. We cannot control the body’s internal process nor life’s happenings. By fostering a positive mindset and emotional resilience, health coaching equips clients with the tools to navigate challenges and setbacks, to foster a sense of confidence and self-belief.
The ultimate goal of health coaching extends beyond weight loss, it's about cultivating sustainable habits that endure. The client’s vision becomes the guiding star and their values shape the path forward. By instilling mindful eating practices, applying the pillars of health and nurturing self-compassion, health coaching sets the stage not only for achieving weight related goals but for lifelong well-being and vitality.
