What? A practical, evidence-based guide to assessing your healthspan across five domains of physical and cognitive function: strength and power, cardiovascular endurance, mobility and balance, flexibility and structure, and neuromotor cognition.
Rather than relying on lab tests or biomarkers, FUNCTION uses simple self-assessments drawn from everyday movements to reveal your 'functional age' and, crucially, where your blind spot may be quietly undermining your healthspan.
Who? Fulton is a healthspan and aging researcher and adjunct professor at the Universities of Virginia, Northwestern, and Delaware. A past president of the National Aging in Place Council, he works at the intersection of practical longevity science and real-world independence: bringing five decades of large-scale functional aging research to a general audience for the first time.
Why? Most of us track the usual metrics: weight, steps, blood work etc. But the most reliable predictors of healthspan are functional: how fast you walk, how well you balance, how quickly you react. Fulton's research shows that by around age 50, your healthspan trajectory is already visible, not in your labs, but in how you move.
The blind spot isn't your weakest area: it's the one you don't know about.
